We're
excited to host a brunch featuring Dr. Zia Ahmed, Chairman of Venture
Investment Partners Bangladesh Limited (VIPB). The mission of VIPB is
to promote the growth and development of Small and Medium Enterprises
(SME) in Bangladesh while providing an effective and profitable
platform for Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRB) to invest in such
entities. Dr. Ahmed is keen to meet and discuss with NYBAP members his experiences in building VIPB's operations in Bangladesh.

DR. ZIA AHMED
Dr. Zia Ahmed is the Founder and Chairman of Venture Investment Partners Bangladesh Ltd. (VIPB). It is the first Venture Capital-type fund management company in Bangladesh with primary focus on Small and Medium Enterprises (http://www.vipblimited.com). VIPB is also licensed by SEC as an Asset/Investment Fund Manager with focus on investments in both listed and unlisted securities of Medium and Large enterprises in Bangladesh. He is also the Founder and President of US-Bangladesh Investment Group, Inc. USA that promotes investment primarily from US-based Non-Resident Bangladeshi into Bangladesh. Dr. Ahmed is the Founder and Chairman of Terra Resources International Investment & Marketing Services Inc. USA which provides investment promotion and management consulting services for sustainable enterprise development in South Asia.
Dr. Ahmed has over 25 years of experience in development finance in South Asia working primarily in Bangladesh, Bhutan and India. He has worked with such international development agencies as: ADB, DFID, IFAD, SDC, USAID, WB/IFC, etc. He has worked on policy issues and direct technical assistance projects on small, medium and micro enterprise development, export development, rural and micro credit, and financial sector reforms. Until recently, he was the advisor to the South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) of IFC on its SME Access to Financial Program. He has designed an innovative Operating Model for Venture Investment Partners Bangladesh Ltd. based on the best practices of SME Venture Capital and Micro Finance world wide. He has also designed the special training program for the implementing staff of VIPB and its Field Units. He is an experienced trainer in banking sector. He holds a PhD in Financial Economics from the University of Virginia, USA and a BA (Major: Economics, Minor: Accounting & Finance) from the University of Oklahoma, USA. He was awarded the Letseizer Gold Medal for the Outstanding Graduating Senior at the University of Oklahoma in 1975. He was also in the Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges, 1975. Prior to embarking on a consulting career, he taught Economics, Money & Banking and Investment & Portfolio Analysis at the University of Virginia and Mary Washington University, USA and post-doctoral research at the Ohio State University, USA.
